March 22 marks World Water Day, an annual observance dedicated to celebrating water and tackling the global water crisis. We’ll gather at the far end of Park Point for a socially distant hike along our beloved Lake Superior. As we hike, we’ll talk about what water means to us and what actions we can take as a community to protect it.

As we mark the spring equinox and the one-year anniversary of the pandemic restrictions on in-person worship, we’ll celebrate the enduring values to which we are committed, and we’ll welcome new members into the UUCD community in a creative online ceremony.

Committing oneself is one thing; being held accountable to one’s commitments is quite another. How can we hold one each other to our mutual commitments in ways that are responsible, compassionate, and have integrity?

Let’s gather in solidarity with Indigenous Water Protectors in the movement to Stop Line 3 by making art together! Pick any art form that best honors what you wish to protect and we’ll make art to create to a visual collage of solidarity with Indigenous leaders holding it down on the frontlines. We’ll then post photographs of our art to social media and send the completed artwork to the Migizi Resistance Camp in Cloquet. Please bring whatever materials you need to make your own unique creation.

In recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8th, we’ll look back and learn from the story of one of the most remarkable women of the nineteenth century: Margaret Fuller. Fuller lived and moved in Unitarian and Transcendentalist circles, exercising an influence on our religious movement that is only beginning to be appreciated today.

According to Martin Luther King, Jr., Beloved Community is not characterized by the absence of conflict, but by the presence of justice. What does healthy conflict look like? How is conflict resolved? Does reconciliation mean the end of conflict, or its transformation? And what does religion have to do with it?

After almost a year of increased time at home, there is no better time to start taking action on climate as a household! With this Take Action from Home event, families are invited to learn more about environmental justice, visualizing a better future, their carbon footprint, and creating action plans. This event opens the door to more resources and tools offered by Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light for households to reduce their carbon footprints and join in systemic and relational change. This is an engaging, activating, and fun way to bring the whole family together and become climate heroes!

Valentines for the Beloved Community

On Valentine’s Day, we exchange Valentines with people to show them we love them. It’s easy to name who we love – parents, grandparents, friends, our pets. But what if we wanted to grow that love? We might think of what happens when you throw a stone into a pond. It makes circles, rippling outward bigger and bigger. We’ll make ripple valentines to show how we can grow love beyond boundaries. Please bring colorful paper, scissors, and glue.
